The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that overall industry billed sales (shipments) for the first 6 months of 2009 decreased 18.8% compared to the same period in 2008, with total shipments of $3.18 billion. CEMA estimates industry orders (bookings) of $2.89 billion in the same period.

In the Bulk Conveying area, orders were down 25% and shipments were down 14%. Unit Handling orders were down 26% and shipments were down 23%.

CEMA tracks new orders and shipped sales volume in seven classes of unit handling equipment and five classes of bulk handling equipment.

The executives representing CEMA member companies who attended the Fall Meeting were not surprised with the 2009 results to date but expressed optimism for later in the year and into 2010. CEMA president Todd Swinderman recently announced these results at the associationís Fall Meeting in Chicago.
