The Problems with Chinese Rubber Conveyor Belts

Rubber conveyor belts, which include conveyer belts, V belts, synchronous belts and other kinds of
transmission belts is a necessary product in material transportation and mechanical transmission. They are widely used in lots of fields, such as metallurgy, mining, machinery, and telecommunications, etc.

Although the rubber conveyor belt industry has developed a lot in recent years, information shows
that there are still some problems:

First, there are not as many varieties of rubber conveyor belts as in some developed countries, especially those with high technology. Though some companies have explored and began to produce special conveyer belts,
the V belts are still dominated by the cut-edged V belts.

Second, the service life of Chinese rubber conveyor belts is eight to ten years while those from developed countries are more than twenty years. Take the V belts used in a car as an example, the service life of Chinese V belts is about 30,000 km, while the service life of Japanese V belts is 180,000 km.

Third, compared with the foreign rubber conveyor belts, the grade of domestic products is low. In the developed countries, the nylon and terylene have taken the place of cotton fiber many years ago, which still
dominates the Chinese market. In some developed countries, the output of wire rope conveyer belts takes one fourth of the total output of conveyer belts, while in China, it take only one tenth.

Fourth, the annual volume of exports of conveyer belts only takes 3% of the total output and most are exported to the developing countries. This situation shows that the Chinese rubber conveyor belts lack competitive
ability in the international market.

Finally, the low qualification rate: the qualification rate of common v- belts, wire rope conveyer belts and heat resistant conveyor belts is less than 80%.
