Thyssenkrupp Elevator Wins World Project of the Year Awards In Three Categories
:: 28 July, 2008
ThyssenKrupp Elevator, one of the world’s largest manufacturer, installer and service providers of vertical and horizontal transportation technology, is thrilled to announce they have been recognized with Elevator World Project of the Year awards in three categories. This is the first time in the award’s history that a company has been recognized for three distinct projects in a
single year.
In the escalator new construction category, The National Theatre Station in Oslo, Norway was recognized. In the automatic people mover category, the Urban Accessibility Project in Vitoria, Spain was honored. And the Ereaga Beach project in Spain was awarded the top prize in the inclined elevator category.
In The National Theatre Station, four escalators, together with 6,500 red, green and blue LED lights were added to the formerly austere tunnels of the city’s busiest station. The new transportation system attracts its commuters with light shows throughout the day.
The installation of four sleek conveyors connects the modern city of Vitoria, Spain to its medieval counterpart of Canton de San Francisco. Designed by architects Roberto Ercilla and Miguel Angel Campo, the project revitalizes the life of a once-isolated city. The nearly 38-yard conveyor is designed with panoramic glass to provide views of historic landmarks along the route.
The inclined elevator at Ereaga Beach in Spain merges the reliability of a stairway with the practicality of an elevator. The car is panoramic, so passengers can enjoy the views on their trip. It has been adapted for outdoor operation in strong winds, heavy snow and rain.
